The Family Golf Program will be modeled more after T-ball/Coaches Pitch where the emphasis is placed on having fun learning and discovering how to play the game while at the same time building and developing skills.
The Richland County Recreation Commission Family Golf Program is a weekly program designed for families with children ages 4-7, but not excluding ages 8-12, who are beginners or brand new to the game. This Fall of 2020 first edition program will be scheduled for 6 weeks with all classes taking place at the Upper Richland County Recreation center at LINRICK, which is located on the 11th tee box. For this program, clubs will be provided for the registered participants to use during the lessons.
In weeks 1 &2 children and their families will learn and practice the skills of building a golf swing. This will be led by George Bryan III and will also include elements of golf fitness and impact conditioning (golf-specific exercises designed to make the critical components of the golf swing easier to learn).
The Middle Phase (Weeks 3,4)will feature a modified version of on-course play. Children and their families will practice their golf swing skills by playing on the actual golf “modified” course. This portion of the program is designed to facilitate a smoother transition of skills from practice to play while also introducing key elements of playing golf before engaging in regulation or real golf. The last two weeks will be fun with developmentally friendly playing formats at LINRICK. Included in these key elements of play are safety and etiquette.
Virtual Learning with on-line interactive live Zoom Classes will supplement golf family learning. Recordings of these classes will be made available.

A brand new Impact Conditioning curriculum will serve as the foundation for Skill Building which blends low intensity exercise with high energy and fun.
The on-course portion of this program will feature fun innovative community based learning for the entire family. The diverse learning medium offers a variety of rolls for parents, grands, and guardians. They may choose to participate alongside their players or serve as guides, caddies or coaches.
